Description

This antique magneto telephone is designed for internal communication, constructed in a style consistent with Western Electric Inter-phone models of the early 20th century. The unit is housed in a dark-stained wooden cabinet featuring a decorative shaped base. A fixed, nickel-plated transmitter is mounted to the top surface. A single nickel-plated ringer bell is located on the front extension of the base. The left side is fitted with a metal switch hook supporting a handheld watchcase style receiver with a dark brown earpiece, connected by a twisted cloth-covered cord. A metal crank handle for the internal magneto generator is positioned on the right side of the cabinet. No manufacturer marks or serial numbers are visible on the exterior surfaces.

Condition report:

The item is in as-found condition with visible signs of age and use. The wooden cabinet shows widespread scuffing, scratches, and chipping to the finish, notably along the edges. There is significant white paint residue or wear along the bottom perimeter of the base. The nickel plating on the transmitter, bell, and receiver hook exhibits tarnishing, pitting, and surface oxidisation. The cloth-covered cord is heavily frayed in multiple locations. The internal components have not been inspected and the item is sold as untested.
