Lot 359:
Description
A mid-20th-century office intercom master station manufactured by Dictograph. The unit is constructed with a rectangular stained hardwood cabinet and a black Bakelite-style handset resting on a top-mounted cradle. The front of the device features a recessed metal control panel with six vertical toggle switches, five in black and one in red. These switches are flanked by two rows of small windows for identification labels, currently displaying typed inserts for Mr Campbell, Mr Lees, Secy Typists, and Ring. A small metal plaque bearing the Dictograph name is fixed above the control panel. The handset is attached by a black braided fabric cord, and a thicker brown cable is present at the rear for external connection.
Condition report:
The wooden case shows prominent signs of age and use, including multiple deep scratches, edge scuffing, and white surface staining on the top. The handset and cradle remain structurally sound but display surface wear and accumulated grime. The braided handset cord is heavily frayed where it meets the handset base, exposing the internal core and wiring. This item is untested and is offered as a non-functional decorative or historical piece.
