Lot 356:
Description
A pair of maritime-themed shadowbox display cases. The larger case is constructed from a dark wood frame with brass-coloured metal corner brackets and a glass front. It contains several samples of knotted white rope mounted on a black fabric background. Each sample is accompanied by an identifying brass-coloured plaque inscribed with Tug Sling, Fisherman’s Bend, Figure Eight Loop, Barrel, Running Bowline, Half Hitch, and Sheet Bend. A central brass-coloured plaque at the base of the frame bears the incised cursive text Traditional Mariner’s Knots. The second, smaller display features a reddish wood frame and blue fabric backing. It contains miniatures of a red and white lifebuoy, a gold-coloured anchor, and a green-hulled sailing ship, alongside three knotted rope samples with paper labels in French, including Balso De Calafate and Noeud De Pecheur. No manufacturer marks are visible on either item.
Condition report:
Both items show signs of age with visible dust and debris trapped inside the glass. The frames and internal contents appear intact and structurally sound.
