Description
This lot comprises two framed prints featuring Victorian-style imagery. The first is a reproduction advertising print for Pears Soap, based on the artwork of Frederick Morgan. The scene depicts two young children in period dress washing at a ceramic basin resting on a wooden chair, with the text Pears Soap printed across the top. The print is housed in a polished dark wood frame with a cream-coloured mount and glass. The second item is a smaller framed print depicting a sentimental study of a young girl in a nightgown standing beside a cradle, with a lit candle on a mantelpiece in the background. This print is set in a wood-effect frame with a gilt-coloured inner slip. Both items are mid-to-late 20th-century commercial reproductions.
Condition report:
The Pears Soap print and frame are in good overall condition with minor surface wear to the frame. The smaller print exhibits visible foxing and light staining to the mount and the edges of the paper. The frame of the smaller print shows minor scuffing.
