Lot 33:
Description
Two fossilised Grammoceras ammonites preserved within a dense grey sedimentary rock matrix. This specimen originates from Ravenscar, North Yorkshire, UK, and dates to the Toarcian stage of the Lower Jurassic period, approximately 180 million years ago. The upper right specimen displays well-defined, slightly curved ribbing characteristic of the genus, while the lower left specimen is partially embedded, showing a clear impression of the coiled form. The matrix remains in its natural, unpolished state with irregular edges. The specimen is presented on a clear acrylic display stand. A white paper label is adhered to the reverse of the matrix with handwritten black ink text reading Fossil Ammonite Grammoceras Ravenscar 180 million yrs.
Condition report:
The specimen is stable and well-preserved within the host rock. There is natural surface wear and minor fracturing to the matrix consistent with fossils collected from coastal localities. The ammonite details remain clear and well-defined.
