Lot 334:
Description
A pair of framed miniature bas-relief pictures crafted from 925 silver, depicting iconic scenes from Malta. The first piece, titled Valletta from Sliema, illustrates the city skyline featuring the dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and a ferry in the foreground. The second piece, titled Marsaxlokk, depicts the traditional fishing village with Luzzu boats in the harbour and the Parish Church in the background. Both scenes are worked in relief with polychrome accents to the sea, sky, and architectural details. The Valletta picture bears embossed hallmarks including a rectangular maker’s mark, an oval mark containing a Maltese cross, and the numerals 925 indicating silver fineness. A sticker on the mount also denotes Sterling Silver. The Valletta scene is set within an off-white textured mount with a metal title plaque, while the Marsaxlokk scene is set within a mirrored mount with a matching title plaque. Both items are housed in matching burr wood-effect frames with gilt inner slips.
Condition report:
Both items are presented in good condition. The silver surfaces show minor signs of natural oxidation consistent with age. The frames and glazing are intact with only light shelf wear to the outer edges.
