Description
This sterling silver sauce boat is designed in the mid-18th century George II style. The piece features a scalloped rim and an elegant scroll handle with an acanthus leaf thumb rest. The body is supported by three cabriole legs with shell-moulded shoulders and stepped feet. The side of the vessel bears a full set of English hallmarks including the maker mark GN over RH for George Nathan and Ridley Hayes, the lion passant for sterling silver, the Chester assay office mark of three wheat sheaves and a sword, and the date letter G for 1907. The material is confirmed as 925 silver.
