Description
This 925 silver item is a late Victorian square dish or pin tray of small proportions. The piece is of square form featuring a decorative undulating and crimped rim. The centre is embellished with a chased and embossed floral and foliate wreath, depicting detailed leaves and blooming flower heads in a naturalistic style characteristic of the late 19th century. The interior rim bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark C S for Saunders and Shepherd (Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd), the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter S for 1892.
