Description
A group of maritime-themed decorative items and artworks. The collection includes a rectangular display case with a dark wood frame and brass corner brackets, containing seven Traditional Mariners’ Knots mounted on a black ground. The knots are identified by brass plaques as: Running Bowline, Sheep Shank, Fisherman’s Bend, Figure Eight Loop, Half Hitches, Carrick Bend, and Barrel. Also included is an inlaid wood marquetry panel depicting a Mediterranean coastal scene with a sailing vessel and cliffside buildings. The artworks comprise an oil painting on board of a two-masted ship at sunset, a framed monochromatic blue print of a naval engagement between warships, and a print on board inscribed along the lower edge St. Michael’s Mount, the ‘Marques’ at anchor.

Condition report:
The items exhibit varied condition consistent with age. There is visible surface dust within the knot display case. The unframed prints and boards show minor wear and scuffing to the edges and corners. The marquetry panel shows light surface scratches and minor wear to the outer edges.
