Description
A collection of commemorative medals, tokens, and a weight. The lot includes a Robert Raikes 1880 Centenary of Sunday Schools Sheffield Celebration medal in white metal with a suspension loop. Also present is a Captain James Cook commemorative medal in bronze-alloy and a Co-operative Wholesale Society Limited Jubilee 1863-1913 bronze-alloy medal featuring John Shillito. The collection further contains a brass apothecaries weight for two drams marked 3ij, a pierced Daniel O’Connell M.P. brass token, and two gilt-metal Grace Darling and Longstone Lighthouse commemorative medals. The remainder of the lot comprises various copper-alloy coins and tokens, including a worn piece with a double-headed eagle design and several heavily corroded or environmentally damaged discs.
Condition report:
Items range in condition from fine to heavily corroded. The Robert Raikes medal shows surface marks and toning. The Captain James Cook medal exhibits significant verdigris and oxidation on the reverse. The CWS medal shows moderate wear and toning. Several smaller tokens and coins are heavily worn, corroded, or exhibit significant verdigris and loss of detail. One token is pierced.
