Description

A Victorian stoneware hot water bottle of cylindrical form with a flattened base for stability, manufactured by Price, Powell and Co of Bristol. The vessel is finished in a buff-coloured Bristol glaze and features a moulded radiating shell or sunburst motif at the base of the filling neck. It is equipped with a top-mounted filling aperture and a ceramic screw-threaded stopper. A small rounded terminal is positioned at one end of the cylinder. The piece bears impressed marks to the left of the moulded decoration reading PRICE POWELL and CO BRISTOL and to the right reading VITREOUS STONEWARE.

Condition report:

The item is in good condition for its age. There is a small, visible chip to the rim of the ceramic screw-cap. The stopper retains its original dark sealing gasket. The surface exhibits minor pitting and dark kiln speckling inherent to the manufacturing process of antique stoneware, along with light surface staining and wear consistent with domestic use. No structural cracks are observed.
