Description
A collection of British and Commonwealth commemorative coins and crowns spanning the mid-20th to early 21st centuries. The group features several 1951 Great Britain Festival of Britain crowns, struck to commemorate the centenary of the Great Exhibition, featuring the St. George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci on the reverse and the effigy of King George VI on the obverse. Two of these examples are presented in their original burgundy and green card presentation boxes with accompanying descriptive inserts. The lot also includes a 1967 Gibraltar one crown coin featuring the castle and key design in a red plastic presentation case, a 1981 Isle of Man coin depicting Queen Elizabeth II, and a modern colourised commemorative coin in a plastic capsule celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip (1947-2007).
Condition report:
The coins exhibit typical surface marks, toning, and light wear consistent with age and handling. The 1951 crowns retain varying degrees of original lustre. The presentation boxes and plastic cases show minor scuffing, edge wear, and age-related discolouration. The paper inserts show light toning and minor creasing.
