Lot 149:
Description
A pair of mid-20th-century Chinese silk embroidery panels featuring traditional bird-and-flower motifs worked in polychrome silk threads upon a white silk ground. The first panel depicts a large bird resembling a golden pheasant perched on a blossoming branch beneath a setting red sun, accompanied by secondary avian figures including cranes and ducks. This panel bears the calligraphic inscription 鸟语花香. The second panel illustrates a pair of peacocks on a flowering branch with the calligraphic inscription 雀屏春色 and a small red artist seal. Both panels are housed in simple gold-toned frames.
Condition report:
The silk embroidery remains bright with good colour retention. The silk grounds show visible horizontal rippling throughout. There is evidence of light foxing and staining, particularly concentrated in the lower-left corner of the peacock panel. The frames exhibit minor surface wear consistent with age.
