Lot 65:
Description
A small baluster-form vase with a flared neck and a stepped circular foot, decorated in the Russian style. The piece is constructed from gilded metal, appearing to be silver-gilt where the white base metal is visible through worn areas of the gilding. The decorative scheme features scrolling foliate and stylized floral motifs executed in the filigree cloisonne technique, where the enamel cells are formed by applied twisted wires. The colour palette includes cobalt and turquoise blues, emerald green, and mauve and pink translucent and opaque enamels, all set against a gilded ground. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the base or body of the vase.
Condition report:
The vase shows signs of age and use. There is visible wear to the gilding, particularly on the interior and exterior of the mouth and around the foot rim. The enamel surface displays some pitting, and there are small, scattered areas of enamel loss and surface abrasions consistent with age.
