Description

A decorative glass walking cane featuring a traditional crook handle. The cane is constructed from clear glass containing an internal helical ribbon or cane-twist decoration in a deep navy blue or black tone. This style of glasswork is historically associated with 19th-century British glassmaking centres such as Nailsea or Stourbridge, where such items were produced as decorative novelties. The shaft tapers towards the base and is fitted with a modern black ribbed rubber ferrule for protection. The glass contains small internal air bubbles, known as seeds, which are consistent with the manufacturing process of the period.
Length: 92 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in fair condition. There is a significant and visible chip accompanied by an internal fracture to the glass shaft, located approximately 2-3 cm above the rubber ferrule. The remainder of the glass shaft and handle appear free of major cracks, though minor surface scratches consistent with age and use are present. The modern rubber ferrule shows minor signs of wear.
