Lot 31:
Description
A mid-20th-century chest of drawers of British manufacture, dating to approximately the 1940s or 1950s. The piece is constructed with quartersawn oak veneers to the drawer fronts and top, showing characteristic medullary rays. The carcass features rounded front edges and a small shaped gallery upstand at the rear. It contains three full-width drawers, each fitted with a pair of decorative cast metal drop handles with a textured foliate design. Secondary timbers include lighter hardwood for the drawer sides and plywood for the drawer bases. The design is typical of the post-war period in the United Kingdom, often associated with manufacturers such as Lebus.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition. There is surface wear, minor scuffs, and light scratches throughout, consistent with age and domestic use. A small nick is visible on the front-right edge of the top surface. The drawer interiors are clean and the drawers operate smoothly.
