Lot 30:
Description
A mid-20th century cocktail and drinks cabinet in the Queen Anne revival style, constructed as a single-piece unit. The upper section features twin drop-down doors with arched tops, fitted with ornate brass-effect foliate handles and supported by metal drop-stays. The interior of the upper section is mirrored to the back and sides, while the inner faces of the fall-front doors are inset with black glass panels decorated with a gilt trellis or lozenge pattern. The lower section comprises a pair of glazed doors with wooden astragals forming arched panes, opening to a display area containing a single glass shelf. The cabinet is finished in mahogany veneers with a dark stain and includes a lock and key for the lower section. The design is characteristic of English furniture from the 1930s to 1950s, resembling the work of manufacturers such as Turnidge of London, although no maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The cabinet exhibits visible surface wear and scuffing consistent with age and use, notably along the top edge and the horizontal rail between the two sections. There are minor scratches and small chips to the mahogany veneer. The interior mirrors and glass shelving appear to be intact. The metal hardware shows some surface oxidation and tarnishing.
