Description

A mid-century stoneware pitcher manufactured by Denby Pottery in Derbyshire. The vessel is of bulbous ovoid form featuring a flared neck and a simple loop handle. The exterior is finished in a characteristic matte olive-grey glaze, decorated with a series of horizontally-turned concentric bands in a contrasting cobalt blue around the central section. The underside of the base bears a circular blue ink stamp with Denby Pottery England around the outer ring and Made In within the centre. The clay body is further marked with an incised potter or decorator mark of the initials CR. A small white adhesive label with the handwritten digits 813 is also present on the base.
