Description
A pair of French Model 1874 Gras sword bayonets, produced at the St. Etienne arms factory. Each example features the characteristic T-shaped steel blade and a hilt comprised of wooden grips secured by two steel rivets. The hilts are finished with brass pommels and steel crossguards featuring hooked quillons and muzzle rings. One crossguard is stamped with the serial number G 25257 and the other with F 36416, both displaying various small circular proof marks. The spines of the blades are hand-engraved in French cursive script; one reads Mre d’Armes de St. Étienne Juillet 1875 and the other Mre d’Armes de St. Étienne Octobre 1883.
