A pair of Japanese export porcelain items comprising a covered sugar bowl and a creamer pitcher. The set is executed in white porcelain and features extensive hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration accented with heavy gold gilt detailing. The design incorporates broad bands of bright cobalt blue and pale green glaze. The bodies feature reserves outlined in ornate gold cartouches, containing stylized mythological birds (phoenix or pheasant motifs) surrounded by intricate floral elements. The covered sugar bowl features two gilded handles and a coordinating finial. The creamer pitcher features a single gilded handle and pouring spout. The underside of one piece bears visible red markings: MADE IN JAPAN and HANDPAINTED.
