A Caithness Glass ‘Ascension’ paperweight by Alastair Macintosh. This modern art glass paperweight is ovate in form, featuring an elaborate internal design. Encased within the clear glass are vibrant elements including a prominent red, spiky, star-like form centrally placed within a translucent purple layer. Below this, a darker blue base is intricately patterned with white flecks, resembling a galaxy or seabed, while numerous small air bubbles are scattered throughout the purple and blue sections. The top and bottom portions of the paperweight appear a deep dark blue or black. The underside is etched with the identifier “P 7885” and the text “Caithness ASCENSION Scotland,” indicating the maker and design name.
