Lot 13: UK and Ireland Pre-Decimal Coin Sets including 1953 Coronation Set
This lot comprises two presentation sets of pre-decimal coinage from the United Kingdom and Ireland. The first set is housed in a blue plastic case with a clear lid, printed with the text GREAT BRITAIN 1953 ELIZABETH II CORONATION. This set contains a complete issue of ten coins: a Crown featuring the Queen on horseback obverse, a Halfcrown, Florin, English Shilling, Scottish Shilling, Sixpence, Threepence, Penny, Halfpenny, and Farthing. The coins feature the struck year 1953 and remain in their original specimen-style presentation arrangement. The second set is contained in a green plastic folder marked ÉIRE and featuring a map of Ireland. It contains seven Irish coins with animal-themed reverses: a Half Crown (horse), Florin (salmon), Shilling (bull), Sixpence (wolfhound), Threepence (hare), Penny (hen), and Half Penny (sow). A central aperture labelled TEN SHILLINGS is empty, and a further aperture for a Farthing is present. A white adhesive label is affixed to the Farthing aperture with handwritten ink reading ÉIRE 1966 1/2d -> 10/- 49-Y-12 inc. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on either case.
