Lot 164: Two Victorian Black Composite Mourning Brooches

This lot comprises two oval black composite brooches. The first item features a high-relief carved female cameo in classical profile, facing right. The figure is depicted with elaborate, flowing curls and a floral headpiece. The cameo is set within a smooth, polished oval border and is mounted onto a metal ring on the reverse. The second item is decorated with a central eight-pointed geometric star motif set against a textured, hatched background, finished with a gadrooned rope-twist border. Both items are fitted with metal pin mechanisms on the reverse, consisting of T-bar hinges and C-clasps. The cameo brooch includes a small metal loop at the top of the mounting.
