Lot 52: A Framed Oil Landscape Painting Of A Cottage

A landscape painting executed in oil on a textured support, depicting a rural scene with a gabled cottage nestled amongst trees. The composition features a palette of blues, greens, and greys, with prominent impasto application of ochre and white paint to the foliage and the thatched-style roof. The work is housed in an ornate, gilt-finished composite frame with scrolling acanthus leaf corners and a fabric-covered inner slip. The verso is secured with a wooden backing board and metal clips, featuring a cord hanger. A mark is present in the lower right-hand corner consisting of three diagonal, parallel strokes; it is not legible as a name. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
