Lot 28: A Hardwood Snuff Box with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay
A Wooded snuff box of rectangular form with a hinged lid and curved profile. The body is constructed from a dark, prominently grained hardwood featuring rounded metal end caps at either side. The lid is decorated with applied metal and mother-of-pearl inlay depicting a folk art scene of a gabled house with a chimney, a running dog, and a human figure holding a staff. The ground beneath the scene is represented by three horizontal slivers of iridescent nacre. Two metal pins are visible on the front face of the lid, securing internal components. The interior reveals the carved cavity of the box, showing the natural texture of the wood grain. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
