Lot 22: A Lidded Ceramic Beer Stein With Relief Scenes Of German Landmarks
Not sold
A lidded ceramic beer stein featuring a relief-molded body decorated with various German landmarks along the Rhine and Mosel rivers. The central decoration consists of several vignettes on a cobalt blue ground, including representations of BURG ARE, BURG KOCHEM, DRACHENFELS, DEUTSCHES-ECK, and a cathedral labeled DOM. The scenes are rendered in a polychrome palette of cream, green, and ochre. The handle is molded with a textured, bark-like pattern. The vessel is fitted with an ornate metal lid featuring chased foliate motifs and a conical finial, attached via a leaf-shaped thumb-lift and hinge. The underside of the base features several impressed marks: the number 3100, the number 15, and a shield-shaped mark containing the characters M over R.
