Lot 157: A Framed Watercolor Street Scene
Sold for: £1
A watercolor painting depicting a narrow European thoroughfare, possibly a street in France. The composition uses an exaggerated perspective to focus on the textures of the stone pavement and the verticality of the surrounding architecture. Multi-storey buildings with cream-coloured facades are detailed with brown-shuttered windows, hanging shop signs, and vibrant flower boxes containing red and pink blooms. The execution incorporates both transparent watercolor and opaque bodycolour to define the foliage and architectural highlights. The artwork is presented behind glass within a cream-coloured mount and a stepped wooden frame. On the reverse, a black printed rectangular framer’s stamp is present on the backing board, reading THE FRAME GALLERY / 11 EAST WOOD LANE / CENTENARY MARKET / ROTHERHAM / TEL 01709 835221. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the artwork itself.
Estimated Width: 56 cm (including frame).
