A United Kingdom one pound coin, struck in nickel-brass and issued in 1999. The coin features the Scottish lion rampant on the reverse, positioned within a double tressure flory-counter-flory, surrounded by the floral emblems of the four home nations: the rose, thistle, leek, and shamrock. The obverse bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. The edge is inscribed with a decorative pattern. The coin is housed in its original Royal Mint fold-out presentation folder, which features a blue background with a historical map of Scotland, a printed red wax seal motif, and a tartan band across the base. The folder is titled 1999 SCOTTISH ONE POUND COIN in printed gold-tone lettering. The interior contains printed text describing the history of the Scottish lion on British coinage and its introduction to the Royal Arms following the Union of the Crowns in 1603.
