A UK silver double florin (four shillings) dated 1889. The obverse features the Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, with the struck legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA. The reverse depicts four crowned cruciform shields representing England, Scotland, and Ireland, arranged with scepters in the angles and a central Garter star. The reverse legend reads BRITT: REG: 18 89 FID: DEF:. The coin is struck in .925 sterling silver and features a milled edge. The designer’s initials JEB are partially visible on the truncation of the bust.

Condition report:

The coin shows signs of moderate circulation wear and environmental exposure. The obverse displays significant dark toning around the legends and within the recessed areas of the portrait, with contact marks and fine surface scratches visible across the fields. The reverse shows similar heavy toning and patina, particularly around the cruciform shields and scepters, with wear to the higher points of the crowns and shields. No protective capsule or original packaging is present.
