Lot 58: UK 1896 Victoria Veiled Head Silver Crown

A UK silver crown, dated 1896. The obverse features the veiled head portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, designed by Thomas Brock. It is inscribed with the Latin legend VICTORIA · DEI · GRA · BRITT · REGINA · FID · DEF · IND · IMP · and bears the small initials T.B. below the truncation. The reverse depicts the Benedetto Pistrucci design of St George and the Dragon. The date 1896 is positioned in the exergue, with the initials B.P. to the lower right. The coin is struck in sterling silver. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
