Lot 25: UK 1937 George VI Coronation Year Coin Set
A UK 1937 George VI coronation year coin set, presented in a wooden frame with a blue card mount. The set comprises multiple denominations issued for the coronation year. The coins are displayed showing their reverses, including a Crown featuring the royal coat of arms with supporters, a Halfcrown with a crowned shield, a Florin with crowned roses, thistles, and shamrocks, a Scottish Shilling, and an English Shilling. Also included are a Sixpence, two Threepence coins (one silver and one nickel-brass), a Penny featuring Britannia, a Halfpenny depicting the Golden Hind, and a Farthing featuring a wren. The inscriptions on the silver coins include FID: DEF: IND: IMP: and the denomination names. The mount is stencilled with the text GT. BRITAIN 1937 in white lettering. The coins are held behind glass in a dark-stained wooden frame with a gilt inner border. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the presentation mount or frame.
Condition report:
The coins show varying degrees of surface toning and fine contact marks consistent with handled specimens. The silver coins retain significant luster with some light tarnishing to the peripheries. The bronze coins (Penny, Halfpenny, and Farthing) exhibit typical brown patination. The nickel-brass Threepence shows minor surface dulling. The blue card mount and white lettering appear intact, and the wooden frame shows only minor storage-related scuffing to the edges. The set is housed in a glazed frame; no individual protective capsules are present.
