Sold for: £6

A pair of UK cupro-nickel 50 pence coins, each housed in a separate red presentation case with a cream silk-lined interior and black velvet-flocked base. The obverse of the coins features the Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, circumscribed by the struck legend ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D·. The reverse, designed by David Wynne, displays a ring of nine interlocking hands surrounding the denomination 50 PENCE and the year 1973. The interior silk lining of each case is printed with a black ROYAL MINT crest featuring the royal coat of arms. The exterior lids of the red textured cases bear a stylised gold-tone logo depicting the lowercase letters e and c. One case retains a small rectangular yellow adhesive label on the lid, though the surface text is not legible. No other maker’s marks or signatures are visible.

Condition report:

The coins exhibit bright lustre with minor contact marks and light surface hairlines consistent with uncirculated or proof-like strikes. The obverse of the coin shown displays a small dark spot near the Queen\'s profile. The reverse of the second coin shows uniform toning. The interior silk linings of the cases show significant brown environmental spotting and discolouration, particularly visible around the Royal Mint crest in both examples. The exterior cases are structurally sound. Both coins are supplied in their original Royal Mint presentation cases.
