Lot 113: An Australian 2014-18 Official Centenary Commemorative Medallion in Presentation Case

An official commemorative medallion marking the centenary of the First World War, presented in its original retail packaging. The medallion is struck in a bronze-toned metal and is housed within a clear acrylic protective capsule. The obverse features a relief Flanders poppy at the centre, flanked by the years 2014 and 18. The legend around the border reads OFFICIAL CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE MEDALLION above and REMEMBRANCE below. The reverse, as depicted on the packaging sleeve, features a central laurel wreath encircling a stylised representation of the Australian War Memorial. The medallion is seated in a black velvet-lined presentation case with a white satin-lined interior lid. The set includes a black card sleeve with white and bronze-toned printed text reading THEIR SPIRIT OUR PRIDE 2014 [poppy] 18 OFFICIAL CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE MERCHANDISE CENTENARY MEDALLION. A printed legend on the side of the box provides historical context regarding the Flanders poppy and the Armistice of 11 November 1918.
