Lot 508: A Full-Length Heavy Black Wool Cape With Lion Head Clasp
Not sold
A full-length cape, constructed from heavy-weight black wool with a felted finish. The garment is designed with a flared silhouette and features vertical side slits for arm movement. It possesses a formal pointed collar and a central button closure. The front is secured by four large gold-tone buttons, each featuring an embossed crest. The crest is composed of a central shield flanked by two supporting figures, though the specific characters and heraldic details are not readable. The neck is further secured by a decorative mantle clasp consisting of two cast gold-tone lion heads connected by a multi-link brass-tone chain. One lion head functions as a toggle closure. The interior is lined with a tonal fabric. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The cape appears to be in good vintage condition. The black wool fabric retains a deep, consistent colour. Minor lint and stray white fibres are visible on the surface of the wool (photo 1). The gold-tone buttons and lion head clasp show light patina and surface wear consistent with age (photo 3). No rips, moth holes, or significant staining are visible on the exterior.
