Lot 415: UK 1976 Decimal Coinage Proof Set
Sold for: £6
A UK proof coin set, featuring denominations issued following decimalisation. The set is presented in a blue plastic display case within a textured cream card sleeve. The sleeve bears a circular legend in gold-coloured foil reading THE COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN & NORTHERN IRELAND. The collection comprises six coins: a heptagonal 50 pence, and circular 10 pence, 5 pence, 2 pence, 1 penny, and 1/2 penny pieces. The visible reverses include the seated figure of Britannia on the 50 pence, a crowned lion on the 10 pence, a crowned thistle on the 5 pence, the Prince of Wales’s feathers on the 2 pence, a crowned portcullis on the 1 penny, and a crown on the 1/2 penny. The coins exhibit a proof finish with frosted relief against mirror-like fields. A rectangular copper medalet is included, featuring the Royal Arms and the text THE ROYAL MINT.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit a bright proof finish with no visible signs of circulation. Minor toning is present on the bronze-coloured denominations, and light environmental tarnish is visible on the 50 pence and 10 pence reverses. The blue plastic display case and clear cover appear structurally sound. The textured cream outer sleeve shows minor surface wear and light foxing consistent with handling and age.
