A 1996 United Kingdom coin collection presented in the original Royal Mint folding card packaging. The set comprises eight denominations of circulating and commemorative coinage. The central commemorative two-pound coin features a reverse design of a stylised football with the date 1996, surrounded by sixteen rings representing the competing nations of the European Football Championship. The one-pound coin displays a Celtic cross with a pimpernel flower, and the fifty-pence coin features the seated figure of Britannia. Other reverse designs include a crowned Tudor rose (20p), a crowned lion (10p), a crowned thistle (5p), the Prince of Wales’s feathers (2p), and a portcullis (1p). The obverse of each coin features the third definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The packaging is decorated with a teal and white marbled effect and an embossed gold-foil image of Britannia. Printed text on the cover reads 1996 UNITED KINGDOM BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED COIN COLLECTION. The interior includes a printed history of the European Championship Finals from 1960 to 1992 and an illustration of a footballer.
Condition report:
The coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition, displaying high luster and sharp strikes. The reverse of the two-pound coin shows a clean surface with no visible contact marks (photo 2). The copper-plated steel one-penny and two-pence coins retain their full original mint bloom. The card packaging shows minor signs of handling, including a small mark to the left of the Britannia figure on the front cover and slight softening to the edges (photo 1). The coins remain securely held within the original plastic housing.
