The dial is decorated with a printed bust portrait of Izaak Walton in an oval cartouche, flanked by fishing rods, nets, and reels. Above the central pivot is the number 0, and the dial is graduated into 8 whole units with 16 sub-units between each, indicated by a red pointer. The face bears several printed inscriptions: REUBEN HEATON, 33 STREETLY RD. SUTTON COLDFIELD, WEST MIDLANDS B74 3JZ, MAKERS, and THE EVER READY SCALE. Within the illustration, a banner below the portrait is printed IZAAK WALTON. The scale is fitted with a metal hanging loop at the top and a metal hook at the base for weighing.
Condition report:
The metal housing and fittings show significant surface oxidation, pitting, and scratches consistent with extensive use. The white dial face exhibits yellowing and spotting throughout. The red pointer has visible losses to the painted finish. Both the top hanging loop and the bottom hook display surface rust and corrosion. The mechanical function and accuracy of the internal spring have not been tested.
