Lot 206: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Record Metal Sash Clamps
A pair of heavy-duty sash clamps, each featuring a T-section bar with a series of pre-drilled adjustment holes along the length. The clamps are constructed from rolled metal bars with cast metal fixed heads and sliding jaws. Each clamp is fitted with a threaded screw mechanism operated by a tommy-bar handle. The sliding jaws are designed to be secured via a pin through the adjustment holes on the bar. The letters RECORD are embossed in capital letters on the cast metal sliding jaws and the fixed heads. One clamp retains a short length of metal chain and a red cord attached to the sliding jaw. Remnants of a black painted finish are visible on the bars. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
Both clamps exhibit extensive surface oxidation and pitting across the bars, cast heads, sliding jaws, and screw mechanisms (photo 1). The black painted finish on the bars is heavily degraded with significant loss and flaking (photo 4). The threaded screws appear structurally intact but show heavy rust accumulation (photo 1). The locking pins for the sliding jaws are missing from both units. The red cord on one clamp is frayed and soiled (photo 3).
