Lot 198: A Collection of Hardwood Timber Offcuts and Prepared Turnery Blanks
Not sold
This lot comprises an assortment of hardwood timber offcuts and prepared blanks, primarily of natural form and circular profile. The collection features several natural log sections with intact bark, exhibiting pale sapwood and contrasting darker heartwood cores. Also included are pre-cut circular and semi-circular blanks, one being a large, thick disc showing prominent growth rings and natural radial drying features. The assortment contains machined sections, including square-edged stock and a cylindrical dowel-style piece with a central aperture. The timber displays a range of natural tones from cream and yellow to deep reddish-brown and dark ochre. Several pieces bear handwritten markings in white: one log section is marked 22.50, and another is marked 52. The pieces are contained within a white woven polypropylene bulk bag with yellow handles. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The timber shows signs of natural seasoning and outdoor storage. Several cross-sections exhibit radial checking and splitting typical for drying hardwood logs (photos 1 and 4). Surface saw marks and minor abrasions are present on the machined surfaces and bark-covered sections (photo 3). Some pieces show evidence of past insect activity in the form of small, circular bore holes on the end grain (photo 4). The items are loose and unsealed within a standard bulk bag.
