Lot 183: A Trend FastTrack Fixed Angle Sharpening System with Diamond Stone
Not sold
A Trend FastTrack manual sharpening system designed for maintaining chisels and plane irons. The tool features a cast metal base with a curved plastic housing finished in black. The housing is printed with white and red text reading 25 degrees, FASTTRACK, FIXED ANGLE SHARPENING TECHNOLOGY, TREND, ROUTING TECHNOLOGY, 30 degrees, and PATENT NO. 2364943. The mechanism includes a sliding carriage designed to hold sharpening stones at consistent angles. One removable sharpening stone insert is present, featuring a black composite holder molded with the text TREND, FTS, SSd, and a circular device containing a W. The underside of the base shows two recessed channels for securing the device.
Condition report:
The sharpening system shows evidence of heavy workshop use. The printed label on the plastic housing is heavily scratched with some loss to the lettering (photo 1). The metal base exhibits significant surface oxidation, ingrained grime, and pitting, particularly within the guide grooves (photo 2). The diamond stone insert is heavily coated in grey metallic swarf and dried residue from honing lubricants. The sliding mechanism appears intact, though the surface is worn. The system is supplied with one sharpening stone; additional grit grades and the original storage case are not present.
