Lot 141: A Hardcover Book, The Middle Ages The Illustrated History Of The Medieval World
Sold for: £1
The Middle Ages: The Illustrated History of the Medieval World by Anita Baker is a hardcover interactive history book housed in a pictorial slipcase. The slipcase features a colourful design replicating a stained-glass window with the title and author printed in white and gold-coloured text. The book itself has pictorial boards depicting three medieval figures engaged in scholarly activity. This volume is designed as an interactive archive and contains numerous removable facsimile documents of historical significance. Visible among these inserts is a reproduction of a medieval charter featuring a Karolus monogram with the letters K, R, L, and S arranged around a central diamond, characteristic of the mark used by Charlemagne. Other documents include a large-scale reproduction of the Catalan Atlas (c. 1375) showing elaborate cartographic details and figures, a facsimile of the Magna Carta featuring dense Latin script, and a document beginning with the Latin phrase HANC QUAM VIDETIS. The interior is heavily illustrated with high-quality colour reproductions of medieval art, maps, and manuscripts. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
