Lot 129: A Trio of Stoneware Containers including Godshill Cider Company Jug

This lot comprises three two-tone glazed stoneware storage vessels. The first is a handled cider jug featuring a dark brown salt glaze to the upper portion and a matching ceramic screw-top stopper, set upon a buff stoneware body. The front bears a black transfer-printed circular mark reading GODSHILL CIDER COMPANY ISLE OF WIGHT. The second item is a lidded honey jar with a knobbed lid, featuring the same two-tone glaze. It is printed with the text FINEST NATIVE FOREST HONEY TAWARI NEW ZEALAND HONEY NET WEIGHT 12 OZ (340g) and decorated with a small foliate sprig. The third vessel is a cylindrical storage jar with a lipped rim, decorated with a transfer-printed illustration of kitchenalia including a pepper mill and herbs, with the legend STORE JAR below. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The stoneware vessels are in good overall condition. The Godshill Cider jug shows minor surface wear to the glaze and several vertical reflection lines inherent to the high-gloss finish (photo 1). The transfer-printed labels on all three pieces remain clear and legible with no significant losses. The ceramic screw-top and the honey jar lid are present and appear free from major chips or cracks. There are minor manufacturing imperfections and surface abrasions consistent with stoneware production and domestic use.
