Lot 95: A Trio of Metal Petrol Lighters with Egyptian and Windproof Designs
This lot comprises a trio of metal petrol lighters of varying mechanical designs. The first is a cylindrical lighter featuring a removable screw-off cap and a textured thumb-wheel ignition mechanism. The second is a windproof model with a sliding outer sleeve, featuring a series of circular ventilation holes and a lanyard ring at the top. The third is a rectangular lighter with an embossed scene depicting the Great Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza, alongside the vertically struck characters UFO W. The underside of this rectangular lighter features two screw-access points for flint and fuel. The lighters are constructed from various metals, including those with copper and yellow-toned finishes. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The lighters show significant signs of age and use. All three pieces exhibit surface oxidation, tarnish, and scratches to the metal finishes. The rectangular Egyptian-themed lighter shows heavy tarnish and loss of finish across the embossed scene. The cylindrical lighter has visible scratches and wear to the cap and body. There is heavy carbon buildup on the wicks and flint wheels of all pieces. The mechanical function and internal completeness have not been tested.
