Lot 49: A Collection of UK 1920 George V Silver Threepence Coins
A collection of UK silver coins, each representing a threepence denomination from the reign of King George V. These coins are struck in .500 fine silver. The obverse of each specimen features the left-facing uncrowned portrait of King George V, surrounded by the Latin legend GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:. The reverse design consists of a large numeral 3 below a crown, with the date 1920 split to either side of the numeral. The central design is framed by a wreath of oak leaves and acorns tied with a ribbon at the base. No maker’s marks or designer’s initials are visible on the surfaces.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit signs of significant circulation and environmental exposure. The obverse portraits show varying degrees of wear, with flattening to the King\'s hair, beard, and facial features. The reverse designs display wear to the higher points of the crown and the oak leaf wreath. Several specimens show heavy dark toning and accumulated surface grime, particularly within the recessed areas of the legends and decorative borders. No protective capsules or cases are supplied.
