Start price: £5

Estimated price: £10 - £15

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of decimal coin sets, each presented in a blue plastic folding case. Every set contains five coins: three bronze denominations comprising the half new penny, one new penny, and two new pence; and two cupro-nickel denominations comprising the five new pence and ten new pence. The coins are held within a white card insert behind clear plastic film. The obverse of each coin features the Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II D.G.REG.F.D. and the date 1968 or 1971. The reverse designs by Christopher Ironside include the crowned portcullis on the 1p, the Prince of Wales’s feathers on the 2p, the crowned thistle on the 5p, and the crowned lion on the 10p. The interior of the folder is printed with the ROYAL MINT logo and text entitled BRITAIN’S FIRST DECIMAL COINS, providing technical specifications and historical context for the transition to decimalisation. The exterior of each folder is gold-tone printed with the title BRITAIN’S FIRST DECIMAL COINS.

Condition report:

The coins exhibit varying degrees of natural toning, with significant darkening and oxidation visible on the bronze denominations, particularly the 2p coins. The cupro-nickel coins show minor surface dulling and contact marks. The blue plastic folders show signs of wear including scuffing, edge wear, and small brown spots of discoloration to the exterior surfaces. The internal card inserts show light yellowing and minor foxing. All sets are complete in their original presentation folders.
