Lot 305: A Parkdale China Porcelain Cream Jug and Matching Sugar Bowl
A matched cream jug and sugar bowl set constructed from fine translucent porcelain. The cream jug features a tapered body with a high-arched scroll handle and a pinched spout, while the open sugar bowl is of a rounded, wide-brimmed form. Both pieces are decorated with a decorative border featuring green and black geometric panels interspersed with floral vignettes. The design is further detailed with gilding and a lower frieze comprising swags, pendant floral motifs, and raised gilt accents. The underside of the cream jug bears a printed mark in orange-brown ink, featuring a central crown device. Above the crown is the text CHINA, and it is flanked by the curved words PARKDALE. Beneath the crown are the words MADE IN ENGLAND. A small, hand-painted mark in brown resembling a wavy line or the numeral 3 is also present on the base.
Condition report:
Both pieces exhibit fine surface crazing throughout the glaze, which is particularly visible on the exterior of the bowl (photo 3) and the body of the jug (photo 2). There is significant rubbing and loss to the gilding on the rims and the handle of the jug. The base of the sugar bowl shows some minor surface soiling. No chips, cracks, or structural repairs are visible.
