Lot 274: UK 1997-2000 Silver Proof Piedfort One Pound Four-Coin Collection
A collection of four United Kingdom silver proof piedfort one-pound coins, dated 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Each coin is struck in .925 sterling silver and is of double thickness (piedfort) construction. The 1997 coin reverse features three lions passant; the 1998 coin features the Royal Arms; the 1999 coin features a lion rampant; and the 2000 coin features a Welsh dragon. The obverses bear the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Each coin is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule and the set is presented in a blue Royal Mint case with a white satin lining. The lid lining is printed in black with a crest and the text ROYAL MINT. Each coin is accompanied by a silver-printed Certificate of Authenticity card reading UNITED KINGDOM SILVER PROOF PIEDFORT ONE POUND COIN CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY, with the respective year.
Condition report:
The coins are in proof condition with frosted relief and mirrored fields. No visible toning, milk spots, or contact marks are observed on the obverse or reverse of any coin. The plastic capsules are clear and free of significant scuffing. The presentation case and satin lining remain in excellent condition with no visible staining or structural damage. All four original certificates of authenticity are present.
