Lot 216: A Sterling Silver Maltese Cross Openwork Pendant
A sterling silver pendant featuring a central Maltese cross design set within a circular rope-twist border. The cross is of openwork construction, featuring four V-shaped arms of equal length that converge at a central point. The piece includes a suspension loop and a large circular jump ring at the top. The reverse of one arm bears three impressed marks within individual cartouches: a six-pointed star or asterisk, the numeric purity mark 925, and the capital letter B. The 925 stamp confirms the sterling silver composition.
Condition report:
The pendant shows visible signs of wear and handling. The obverse and reverse flat surfaces of the cross exhibit fine surface scratches and scuffing throughout (photos 1 and 2). Dark tarnish and oxidation are present in the recessed areas of the rope-twist border and around the hallmark punches on the reverse (photo 2). The bail and jump ring remain intact and functional. No original packaging is supplied.
