Lot 190: A Group of UK George V and George VI Silver Coins
This lot comprises an assortment of British circulating coinage minted in .500 fine silver. The largest coin is a 1928 Florin featuring a cruciform arrangement of four crowned shields with the legend FID DEF IND IMP and ONE FLORIN. Two Shillings are present: a 1940 English crest type featuring a lion standing atop a crown, and a 1941 Scottish crest type depicting a lion holding a sword and scepter above a crown, both inscribed FID DEF IND IMP and ONE SHILLING. The lot includes two Sixpence coins: a 1928 George V issue with six oak sprigs and a 1946 George VI issue featuring the crowned royal cypher GRI flanked by the date 1946 with SIXPENCE below. Three Threepence coins dated 1931, 1935, and 1936 complete the group, each displaying three oak sprigs with acorns and the legend THREE PENCE. All coins feature milled edges.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of significant circulation wear and environmental exposure. The 1928 Sixpence and 1940 Shilling exhibit heavy dark oxidation and tarnish across both the obverse and reverse surfaces. The 1928 Florin and 1946 Sixpence display moderate surface toning and light contact marks. The Threepence coins show varied degrees of handling wear with darkened patina in the recessed areas of the design. No protective capsules or original packaging are supplied.
