Lot 131: A Collection of UK Commemorative Coins, First Day Covers, and Stamps
A collection of British numismatic and philatelic material. The numismatic items include four blue folders with gold-coloured lettering reading BRITAIN’S FIRST DECIMAL COINS, containing uncirculated currency sets featuring the halfpenny, one penny, two pence, five pence, and ten pence denominations. Also included are two commemorative crowns in plastic cases, one reading SILVER JUBILEE 1977 and the other 80th Birthday Aug 4th 1980. The philatelic material includes First Day Covers with various printed legends including FIRE SERVICE and 1947 1972 SILVER WEDDING. Several sheets of 18P stamps featuring the Machin profile of Elizabeth II are present, along with loose postage stamps. One First Day Cover is hand-addressed to 54 JUBILEE AVE NORMANTON YORKS WF6 1DW. A commemorative cover bears a printed legend for THE BATTLE OF HASTINGS 1066. The collection is housed in a square metal tin featuring a printed photographic image of a stag.
Condition report:
The coin sets and crowns are held within their original plastic and card packaging, showing some light surface wear to the blue folders. The 1977 Silver Jubilee crown shows light toning to the reverse. The First Day Covers and loose stamps exhibit varying degrees of handling, including minor creasing to corners and edges. Some envelopes are hand-addressed in blue ink. The 18p stamp sheets remain in flat, unperforated condition. The metal storage tin shows minor surface scratches to the base and lid.
